  • Vendor Spotlight: Big City Catering

    Big City Catering Orlando

We have had the pleasure of working with Big City Catering for many years and on many beautiful weddings! Professional, creative, & delicious are some of the words that come to mind when thinking of this team. With over 70 team members & years of global experience in the culinary world, they create diverse menus full of rich flavors.

We interviewed some of the stars of the Big City team and here’s what they said:

    Tom Big City Catering

    Tom Pokorny, Owner & President

Where does the name “Big City Catering” originate? “When developing the concept for Big City Catering we realized that Central Floridians were unable to get the quality and flavors often associated with “Big City” cuisine.  We combine high-end classic fare with our own distinctive contemporary style and cutting edge techniques to create “Classic-Nuevo fusion.”  We felt that “Big City Catering” was the perfect name for such a company.”

Big City Bacon BarWhat should couples expect when they hire Big City Catering? “We pride ourselves on being a small company that focuses on the client relationship.  We rarely book more than a couple of events on any given day, so our A-Team is able to give each event the highest in quality and service.  Our clients will work with the same person from initial meeting all the way to the last guest leaving the event and should expect Unique Culinary Expression, Exceptional Service and Memorable Events second to none.”

    Thomas Big City Catering

    Thomas Gulli, Chef de Cuisine

What’s your new favorite food trend? “We are seeing a lot of clients who are wanting to keep in mind a healthier menu for them and their guests using fresh ingredients. With that, we are incorporating kale, avocado, beets, quinoa, dried fruit and other “Power Foods” into our menu items. We pride ourselves in making everything from scratch in our kitchen, so we are also making fresh house-made vinaigrettes for all our salads.”

Bacon Brulee Carving StationWhat’s your favorite dish on the Big City Catering menu? “That is a tough question because I’m not sure I could call one dish my favorite over all the others. I get excited when a client comes to us with their own variation of a dish, it allows me to be creative and experiment with different flavors. The dish that I get asked to make the most would have to be our “Bacon Brûlée Carving Station” which is a Whole Slab of Applewood Smoked Bacon smothered in a BBQ Dry Rub, & Sweet Rum Glaze.”

Kristina Big City CateringKristina Mollo, Wedding Sales Manager

How customizable can the client be? “Custom is our middle name 😉 I ensure that each of my client’s menu and big day is exactly their vision.  The menu helps become part of what makes a wedding unique, memorable, and truly stand out from the rest.  By creating individualized menus for each event, we feel that we accomplish this very well.  We know the formula to creating a culinary experience that will reflect the culture and atmosphere of each special event.  Our personal attention from beginning to end is something you just won’t find with most caterers in this area.”

Big City Catering saladWhat is your favorite part of working an event? “I would have to say my favorite part is when I finally get to see the Bride all dolled up and the Groom all spiffy!  {Oh, and getting to taste the yummy menu we created together!}”

What is one tip you could give to someone looking for a caterer? “READ REVIEWS!  Going on WeddingWire.com or TheKnot.com to read reviews written by previous clients is a great way to really get an idea of what we do here at Big City.  We strive for presentation that is as pleasing to the eye as it is to the palate, out-of-this-world service and food that you’ll remember for years to come. I’d like to think our reviews reflect this too!”
